Joanne Knox
English Teacher
Originally hailing from New Hampshire, Joanne Knox is happy to call
Crested Butte home for a second year. An avid runner, cross country skier, and
snowboarder, Joanne has found lots to love about living in the Gunnison Valley. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in
English (with a minor in Political Science) from St. Bonaventure University
where she played division 1 soccer, and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree
from the State University of New York at Cortland.
Her love for learning has encouraged Joanne to seek out other cultures through
extensive travel and a study abroad experience at Oxford University.
Joanne joined the CBA staff as the English Department Chair last year. Due to her experience as a founding faculty member at the North Central Charter Essential School in Fitchburg, MA where she taught for four years, Joanne has extensive experience in curriculum design, staff mentoring, and alternative methods of student evaluation. She has taught electives in American Sign Language, Performance Poetry, Children's Literature, and Student Government. Joanne also co-founded the Outing Club and Girls Lacrosse Team at her former school.
Joanne is listed in Who's Who Among America's Young Teachers, and she has been nominated for an Outstanding Young Educators Award by The American Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award at SUNY Cortland in 2001, and was the Commencement Speaker for her class. Additionally, Joanne was awarded Crested Butte Academy's Award for Excellence in Teaching last year.
