Melissa Nuener
Art Teacher
Melissa Neuner graduated in 2002 from the University of Virginia
with her undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and a Masters of
Teaching in K-12 Special Education.
After graduation, she spent a few months learning how to surf in the
Outer Banks of North Carolina. When
water turned cold and all the tourists left, she packed up and came to Crested
Butte because it was winter, and why not go to a ski resort? Two years and two snowboards later, she
picked up and moved again to begin her teaching career in San Francisco, CA. There she designed and implemented the art
curriculum for the 2nd through 6th grades and taught
upper elementary Language Arts for one school year. She missed the mountains terribly, so she moved
back to Crested Butte to work at The Slate River School. There, she once again designed and
implemented the art program while also working as a classroom teacher.
Melissa lives in Mount Crested Butte where she continues to work on her snowboarding but is also currently trying to learn the art of two planks on snow. She spent her summer mountain biking, camping, hiking, and attempting to try and clear the wake on a wakeboard. She is still landing short, so if you have any pointers for her, please contact CBA where Melissa is currently teaching 6-12 Studio Art and middle school math.
