Kain Leonard
Kain Sparks Leonard was born and raised in Hygiene, CO. Kain filled his winters skiing and the summers riding bicycles and motorcycles. At age 12 Kain was introduced to his first mountain bike by his brother. His love for bikes and skis led him to Gunnison, CO to attend Western State College in 1998. The following summer Kain made his first trip to British Columbia and discovered downhill mountain biking. Soon after his return to Colorado Kain began racing and in 2002 he won the NCAA Championships for Western and in 2003 made the progression into the professional ranks. Kain founded the Gunnison Valley Free Ride Association, created the Gunnison Mountain Bike Kids Camp, and designed and built a dirt jump park at our local riding area, Hartman's Rocks. In 2005 Kain moved to Utah to restructure a new bike shop in Park City. In addition to working in the shop, he guided road and mountain bike tours in Southern Utah, continued coaching kids and adults, and remained one of the fastest pro downhill racers in the nation. After spending two years in Utah Kain returned to Colorado in 2007 and went on to win highly competitive Mountain States Cup series title. Kain is excited to bring his experience as a racer and extensive knowledge of bicycle mechanics back to Crested Butte. When he is not riding and racing his bike it must be snowing which means Kain will be hiking the peaks around Crested Butte looking for fresh powder turns.
